Minimal workspace for inspiration

Every collection we release starts in the same place: a quiet desk, a cup of coffee and a blank canvas. Over the last two years our artists have tried big studios, shared offices and noisy cafés. The setup that keeps winning is the simplest one. Fewer objects, fewer screens and fewer alerts leave more room for the ideas that matter.

A minimal workspace is not about owning less for the sake of it. It is about removing the small things that pull your eyes away from the work. When the only thing in front of you is the piece you are drawing, decisions get faster and the style stays consistent across hundreds of characters.

Our approach

We keep three rules for every desk in the team. They sound simple, but together they changed how much finished art we ship each week.

  • One main screen, set to a warm color profile after sunset
  • A tablet and a single sketchbook within arm’s reach
  • Notifications off while drawing, checked twice a day
  • A plant, a lamp and nothing else on the desk

Light, sound and comfort

Natural light is the best tool you can add for free. Place the desk beside a window and avoid having the window right behind your screen. In the evening a single warm lamp is enough. For sound, many of us draw with low instrumental music or simple noise; lyrics tend to break focus during long sessions.

Clear the desk and the mind follows. Most of our favorite traits were drawn on the emptiest days.

Keep the digital space clean too

Your files are part of your workspace. Name layers clearly, keep one folder per collection and archive old drafts every Friday. When a holder asks about a trait from six months ago, you will find it in seconds instead of digging through a messy drive.

Start small. Clear one drawer, move one app off your dock or turn off one alert today. Small changes add up, and the work that comes out of a calm space is easier to be proud of.

Turning off notifications while drawing changed everything for me. I finished more in one week than the whole month before.

The tip about naming layers and archiving drafts every Friday is gold. Saving this post.
